Spread betting is a relative newcomer to the betting arena, and should not be tackled unless you are sure you know what you're doing.. you can lose a lot in a very short space of time..
In a nutshell, spread betting involves placing a stake per point difference on any result,
e.g Stock market FTSE 100 to go over 5600, Oil to go above $80 a barrel, Liverpool to score over 30 goals in a season..
The downside is that if the result goes against you, you don't just lose your £1, but £1 per point that you are out by,
So considering the FTSE 100; if this closes at 5580, you'd lose £20; if it closed at 5615, you'd gain £15.
The "spread" element is where the site makes it's money, as they take a few points commission.
e.g. Buy (bet for price to go up) £1 per point on FTSE100 at 5590 - you will actually get this at around 5596 - the 4 points is the site's commission.
The Members area has a more detailed explanation and strategies on spread betting.

Very new site (as at Oct-09), though it seems to be working OK. You will have to contact CS for a user ID, which can take a few days. Sports spreads available. |

Reasonable site, though the margins are pretty slim (this may just be due to market turmoil (autumn-09), and could settle. More for the gambler than the true spread-bettor. |
